Antique Shopping

Hello everyone!

Yesterday, my husband and I spent the day together going shopping and out for lunch.  We had such a good time.  We went a little north of us up to Jasper, GA and then into Ellijay.  It's close to the mountains and very rural.  We found some great places to shop.  I had no idea that there were so many antique shops there!

We first stopped here.

This place had just about anything you were looking for!
I thought this headboard was pretty.  It was marked sold.  You'll notice that in this store, there is no "styling" that takes place.  Everything for sale is out in the open for your own imagination to do with what you want.  Notice the big traffic light for sale just behind the headboard!

I spied this large tobacco basket hanging outside.  Too bad it wasn't in very good condition.  The price was good on it though.

After going inside, I spotted this old Toledo scale.  Loved it!  I don't have a place for something so large though.

One thing that caught my eye at almost every antique store we went in were these old cameras.  I really liked them!  They would make a great collection mixed with some books.  They were in the $40 range.

I also noticed a lot of enamelware everywhere!  Tons!  It was available in lots of different colors and sizes too.

I love these old crocks.  Plenty of them were for sale.

After all that shopping, we had worked up an appetite for some lunch.  We went to this place in Ellijay. It's called the Canterberry Restaurant. It was SO good.  They sell mostly soups, sandwiches and salads.  And they have a decadent dessert counter too!  I had a cup of tomato basil soup and chicken salad sandwich.  My husband had a turkey club sandwich with chips.  Everything is made fresh and homemade there.  We WILL be going back!

There were more shops in this town too.

So, it was a fun day of exploring, shopping and eating!

Nothing better than a little day trip to rejuvenate your spirit.

Thanks for stopping by.

What I'm Crushing On

Happy Monday!

Or at least I hope it is for you.  I've gathered a list of things that make me happy today (and other days).  It's a list of miscellaneous things from food, to analytical thoughts on some one's blog, and even saving at the grocery store!  So, if you want to see what some of them are................please read ahead.

1)  I came across this post a few weeks ago and wanted to share it with you in case you don't already follow this blog.  This post was written so well and I agreed with it so much that I just had to share it!

It's called "Enough" from The Cottage Nest blog.  Click HERE to read it.  I think we can all relate to it!

2)  Another thing I've been enjoying is having a little fan sit next to my chair at night.  Do you know how refreshing it is to be able to turn on a fan directly on your face while taking steroids that cause insane amounts of sweat to build up on you while sitting in a perfectly air conditioned house?  Do you know?????

3)  I'm also enjoying eating a lot of this.

I love spinach salads!  It has been a great way for me to get more iron and potassium in my diet too.

4)  While shopping for these yummies, I've been enjoying the extra savings at Walmart as well.  I'm not trying to sound like a commerical, but they have this new savings catcher plan that I love.  You just enter the receipt number, at the bottom of your receipt, online and then they compare all the other stores in your area for a better deal.  If there was a better deal out there, they will send you a credit for the difference!  I've already saved about $35 since they started this back in June.

You can read more about the program HERE

5)  Finally, I'm completely smitten with Holly Mathis's new kitchen.  Have you seen it yet?  She just moved into a new house and had the kitchen redone in a charming cottage style that makes my heart skip a beat.  Go check it out HERE on her instagram!

Well that wraps up my "happy" list for today.  Do you have a list like that right now?

Thanks for stopping by.

Platter Collection

Hello everyone!

This week has been a crazy one!  I've been getting my son ready to go back to school and he is now already on his second day back.  There was shopping to be done, lunch food to be planned and supplies to be labeled.  There was an open house to meet his teachers and find his classrooms.  I'm SO glad that this week is over and now things can begin to fall in place easier next week.

I wanted to share another "tweak" I did on a wall in my foyer.  You may recall I only had a couple of platters hung, but decided to expand on that on this wall.

I opted for some different shapes to make it more interesting too.

This wall has always given me fits because it's in a narrow space and a door opens into it.  So, I'm limited on what I can put here.

But, I'm liking the grouping of platters for their pleasing shape alone.

I already had these, so I didn't have to purchase any either.

I added some more of my vintage leather books in my foyer too.  Remember I took them out of my secretary recently.

I'm liking the warmth of the leather against the pale blue chest.
And of course, a little candle light never hurt either!

We have been getting some much needed rain lately too.  I hear it thundering off in the distance right now.  Everything was so dry here this week, so I'm thankful for the rain (for a change).

Hope you all are having a good Friday so far and have a nice weekend planned.  We may try to go see that new movie, called Into the Storm that just came out today.

Thanks for stopping by!

Real Life and Some Changes in the Family Room

Hello everyone!

I'm finally starting to feel the cloud lift around me.  My meds got straightened out and I'm hoping to feel well enough to get me through this hectic week.  School starts back this Thursday and I still have some things to do to get ready for that.

Our garden is slowing down, but our tomatoes have been popping out like crazy!  This is the second batch full this week alone.

There's one lonely cucumber in the mix too. I've been clipping those like crazy too.  Still waiting on some more to mature first though.

I promised last week that I would share some changes I've been working on in the family room.

I found some pretty vintage artwork at an antique store and propped it on my mantel.

The new one is on the right.  Isn't it cute?  I've always liked floral paintings.

I placed this peony arrangement in a burlap sack on the other side of the mantel.

And on the hearth, I placed a demijohn bottle in an old rusted wire lampshade that I found while out shopping too.

I thought about using it on a lamp, but it's too big for most of mine.  So, I'll use it like this or even as a cloche in the future.  Lots of fun uses in store for it, I forsee!  I was happy to snag this since I've been on the look out for one.

Here is how my mantel looks now.

I'm liking the romantic look of it with a little color.

My old crate on the coffee table received a mix of old books, demijohn bottle and a sprig of greenery.

I like the natural look of it and the texture it has.

Do you see that mess on my sofa over there?  That's real life around here right now.  See?  I didn't even straighten it up for you.  Sorry about that.  I'm running around like a mad woman with too much on my plate this week, so I had to set some boundaries.  LOL!

And look whose all kicked back and taking it easy? At least he's out of my hair when he's sleeping.  This little guy has been keeping me good company while I've been sick.

And lastly, my other two chairs received some french ticking pillows that I've had.  Decided to mix up the ticking on the chairs with the florals on the sofa.

So, that's it for now.  I've done some more tweaking in other areas as well, which I'll share at another time.

I'm hoping to get back to a regular schedule around here now that school is starting back.

Hope you are all doing well this week.

Thanks for stopping by!

Come Visit Me on my Guest Post!

Happy Sunday to everyone!

First, I want to let you know how much better I'm now feeling.  I ended up going to the hospital for fluids and treatment.  It made ALL the difference in getting well faster.  I'm being treated for ulcerative colitis.  Do any of you know what that is or have it yourself? I've had it before, so I knew exactly how bad it was going to get.  It's about as as bad as having a stomach flu with a fever that has no end in sight!  It is triggered by my auto immune disease that causes severe inflammation throughout my body.  It usually starts with the muscular skeletal system and then moves its way into an organ.  This time, my colon.  That is it's favorite place to take up residence!  Well...........it's getting kicked out FAST now.  I'm taking steroids to kick it's fat butt.  Anyway, I want to thank you all for your kind words, prayers and well wishes while I was feeling so miserable.  I loved getting so much support from all of you, whom I think of as friends.

But now, onto greener and hopefully prettier pastures.

I'm being featured over at Pamela's blog today for her weekly Sunday feature, called How I Found my Style! Pamela, from From My Front Porch To Yours has great style herself and always has wonderful ideas to share on her blog.  She invited me to participate and I jumped at the chance.  So, thank you to sweet Pamela for including me in this fun weekly series!

I hope to see you over there!

Under the Weather

Hello everyone!

I don't have any pretty pictures to share today.  I've been very sick this week with a flare-up from my auto immune disease.  So, I will continue to visit you all as I can, but won't be posting until I'm better.  I really don't have the strength right now.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Restyling the Secretary Shelves

Hello everyone!

I recently made some changes to some rooms in my house (subtle changes), which meant that my antique books found a new home.  They had been in my secretary for years!  I decided to fill the shelves with more white pitchers and blue glass. I can't get enough of these dishes!  I just realized that they are in every room in my house now!

I love the new look.  It has a clean look to it now.

The pitcher, below on the left, is a recent find.  It's ironstone.  I found it at a "new to me" antique store very close to my house.

I added my fresh lavender to an old galvanized bucket.

Here is a sneak peek of what I've been working on in another room.

Don't let this picture fool you, though, and think that I've started adding lots of color and pattern everywhere.  I'm just enjoying a touch of it here and there.

Hope you're having a good week so far. I'm still battling my inflammation problems this week.  It has now moved on to my stomach.  I was just thinking how it's been a  long time since my last flare-up.  It makes me appreciate the days that I feel good, that's for sure!  Hoping that the meds I'm taking will get me well soon.

Thanks for stopping by!
