More Arrivals on my Doorstep

Hello everyone!

The fog is starting to clear from my body as I feel better and better everyday.  Thank goodness!  It will definitely give me something to be grateful for this Thanksgiving.

As I mentioned in a post I did before I got sick, I had some things on order that hadn't yet arrived.  Well.......they're here!  One of them came in and I was too sick to even open the package when it arrived.  That n.e.v.e.r happens!  Here is what it was.

Of course, this is another Decor Steals purchase.  They seem to sell things that just speak to me!  What can I say?  This is called a Laurel Mirror.  It's made to look old and heavy (but of course, really it's not).  I hung it in my hallway that leads to the powder room.

Next, I received this vintage style kitchen stool.

It is the perfect height for my table.  So, I relocated the little burlap bench and placed this one here. It's great for my youngest son to sit down and do his homework on too.

And..........do you see something on my light fixture above the table?

Why...........could it be..............

Gobble Gobble!

This is my best"est" drawing of a turkey I could do.  (I am no artist!)

I drew this just for Bliss too! Read why here.

I know she will be sooooooo proud of me.

The leaves are falling fast around my house.  But rather than showing you mounds of ugly leaves all over the place,  I shot this pic through my dining room window earlier this week.  I thought it was so pretty!

Since I basically missed all of last week of Fall, I'm savoring what's left.  I drove for the first time in a week yesterday and couldn't believe how beautiful everything looked.  I just wish my town wouldn't bombard Christmas decorations on us so soon though.  I want to savor what's left of Fall since it is fleeting.

Thanks for stopping by!

On the Mend and a Wonderful Surprise!

Hello everyone!

First I want to thank everyone for their kind words and well wishes while I was battling an awful bout of Colitis.  If anyone has ever had it, they know how miserable it can be.  I'm not 100% over it, but have gotten more of my energy back which allows me to post again.  Before, I felt like doing nothing!

Also, one particular blogger, Bliss Ranch, had me laughing at this hysterical post in my honor!  Bliss, I owe you a chalk project for sure.

Now, the big surprise I have to share with you is this package I received in the mail today.

It is from Ann Drake of Sutton Place Designs.  You probably know her blog, On Sutton Place,  Ann is a wonderful seamstress (something I am not).  She inquired about the measurements of my little foot stool that I recently made over. She offered to make me a custom ruffled slipcover  for it.  I was expecting just a form fitting cover with a small ruffle around the edges.  Little did I know that it would look like this!

Can't see it very well?  Here's a better view.

I was over joyed to see it with full ruffles and a nice thick drop cloth material that has been prewashed for softness.  The best part about it is that it just drapes over the top of the stool.  It's not really fitted.  I like that!

Here is the underside of it.

I love ruffles and this one has plenty!

Here is the stool before:

And here is the after again:

Enough said right?

She went even further and sent me this beautiful tea towel she made.

It matches my home perfectly!  Now I've got to find the perfect spot for it.

Ann has an Etsy shop full of wonderful ready made items too.  She recently added some Christmas pillows and stockings to her shop as well.  She also has access to real vintage grain sacks that she transforms into beautiful table runners, pillows, stockings, scented sachets and even I-pad covers.  You just have to go check it out if you haven't already been by there.  Click here to visit her shop.

Thank you Ann for your wonderful kindness!  I look forward to ordering a grain sack pillow from you in the future.  I've had my eye on them for awhile now.

Thanks for stopping by!

Under the Weather

Just wanted you all to know that I have been missing from my blog because I've been sick all week.  No fun!  I'm battling an inflammatory bowel disease flare-up.  It is taking its dear sweet time to leave my body too!!!

So, decorating and eating good food and living my normal life has taken a back seat.  I'm sick of pills, Gatorade and soup!

So, until I'm better, I will just read your blogs for some enjoyment.

Here in my bed............

Hope to return soon!

Thanks for stopping by.

Vintage Style Goodies

Hello everyone!

I have a few new things that I haven't shared with you yet.  One of these was for my birthday and some of these are just some items I found over the last several weeks.

Wanna see?

One of the items I got for my birthday was this vintage style sign from Antique Farmhouse.

I fell in love with it when I first saw it.  It's a reproduction of an old sign.  I hung it in my kitchen (logical right?).  It fits right in with the color and style of my kitchen.

I also received this industrial looking clip note holder from Decor Steals.

Right now it's holding a  post card, but I plan on using it in the kitchen to hold recipes while baking during the holidays.  I think it will come in handy!

At the local antique mall down the street from me I came across this unique lantern.

It looks like it was once wired to be an electric lantern.  It has great patina too.

My mother and sister came over recently and took me out to lunch for my birthday.  We went shopping at our favorite antique mall afterwards. I've mentioned that I'm collecting vintage grain sacks.  I found another one that just had to come home with me!

I ended up using it like a runner on my coffee table.  I really like it there.  It has some beautiful initials on it, but needs a bit of cleaning before I can use that side.  So, I flipped it over and used the back side for now.

I'm still waiting on a few more items to be delivered and I'll share those with you as they arrive.

Hope you all had a great weekend and are adjusting well to the new time change.  I know I am!

Thanks for stopping by!

Our Halloween Night

Hello everyone!

I hope all of you had a good day yesterday.  We were fortunate to have beautiful sunny skies yesterday and no rain for the trick-or-treaters.  However, the night was chilly though.

My son dressed up as a "cool ghoul".  I guess that means a hip ghost.  Ha!

My husband took him out trick or treating with our neighbors.  I stayed home to answer the door and give out candy.  We didn't have near as many kids this year!  Guess that means our subdivision is aging.  Boo Hoo!  I remember when we had our first Halloween here and we nearly ran out of candy.  Not this time.  Now I'm going to be begging people to take it to work and give it out to friends!

My son didn't want to draw a face on our pumpkin to be carved this year, so I opted for something totally different.

I was going for something like this........

I just wanted random holes cut out all around.  So I left instructions with my husband while I went to pick up a pizza for dinner.  (We don't cook on Halloween night!)

When I came home, he was feverishly cutting out a million holes in the pumpkin (unable to find his drill bit to make it easier).

This is what it ended up looking like!

????????

Not exactly what I meant, but hey, he just did what I told him.  Ha!! I meant for them to be spaced out randomly around the whole pumpkin. Poor thing,  he was afraid he was going to be at this ALL night!

Now that I look at it, it looks like a bunch of bullet holes were shot in it!

Max greeted all of the trick or treaters as they came up to the door.

By the way, yesterday was my 48th birthday too!

So, after trick or treating, we celebrated that too.

My neighbor came by and surprised me with a beautiful hand made tea towel.  She is starting her own business (outside of her nursing career) making various custom linens.  She has a heavy duty embroidering machine and the flowers on this towel were done by her machine!  How neat is that?

She is in the process of getting her website set-up.  As soon as she is open for business, I will pass along the info to you in case you're interested in her work.

Well, Halloween is now but a memory for 2012.  Now, moving on to Thanksgiving!

Till next time........

Thanks for stopping by!

Grain Sack Love

Hello everyone!

Well, I have officially jumped on the french grain sack band wagon!  I'm in love with my newest treasure.  And I want more, lots more!

I introduce to you my first vintage grain sack now being used as a giant pillow on my sofa............

I love the subtle texture it has and the soft blue color of the stripes.  While out shopping, I discovered so many varieties of these grain sacks that I now know I want to start collecting them.  Does that ever happen to you?  I've always loved them, but never had one in my home before.  I now know it is something that was missing all along.

In an effort to keep things streamlined in my family room, I decided to remove the checked table cloth from my round table next to the sofa.

I painted it this soft shade of blue (which I thought would be more grey)  but it turned out to be a happy accident.  Ha!

I didn't want every piece of furniture to be the exact same color anyway, so this adds a bit of color and interest.

I found this old worn galvanized tub to fill with white flowers on my coffee table too.  I decided to wrap some burlap ribbon around it for interest.

And I changed out the pillows in my white chairs so they wouldn't clash with my grain sack pillow on the sofa.  It should be the star!  Ha!

It seems there is no shortage of  grain sacks around here.  I prefer the blue and white ones though.  I will have to take my time as they are a bit pricey.  But, now I have something to look for!

On another note, I've been watching the news and keeping up with the terrible "super storm" as it has been called.  I hope that everyone in its path has taken shelter and will come out through it safely.  This is history in the making, I hear!

Until next time...........

Thanks for stopping by!
